Campbell Makes His Way To Wales

Bernie McGuire

Wednesday, 2nd June, 2010

Michael Campbell has made his way to Wales for this week's Celtic Manor Wales Open being played on the Twenty-Ten course that in October will host the Ryder Cup.

It is Campbell's seventh visit to Wales since making his debut in the event in 2003 when he met Celtic Manor Resort owner Sir Bernard Matthews.

Campbell will have the distinction of leading out the second half of the morning draw at 7.35am local time.

Organisers have drawn the Callaway Staff player to compete alongside the Ireland pair of Damien McGrane and in-form Gareth Maybin.

Last fortnight Maybin qualified for a first ever U.S. Open appearance in exactly the same manner that Campbell had done five years earlier and that was to qualify at the Walton Heath Club in Surrey.

"I am really looking forward to playing the first two days alongside Michael," said Maybin.

"It will be good to talk to him, if the opportunity arises, to talk to him about the U.S. Open and what to expect.

"Hopefully, both he and I, and Damien, can all play well over the two days because I know Michael's been struggling and it would be good to see him bounce back and show some decent form."
