It was a happy return to the Emerald Isle for Michael Campbell on Sunday night (Irish time).
Campbell was aboard a special charter flight that left Paris after the French Open and bound for Shannon Airport and the two-day J. P. McManus Pro-Am at Adare Manor.
Campbell is a former Irish Open winner and also a good friend of the golf-mad McManus.
However delighting the New Zealander was arriving in Ireland having played all four rounds in Versailles.
It was the first occaison since last October that Campbell had played all four days of a tournament.
He played the final round in Versailles in the company of Scotland's Stephen Gallacher who later commented how pleased he was to see Campbell finally playing with more confidence.
“I’ve known Cambo for so long and while he had a bad finish today was the best I’ve seen him hit the ball for a very long time,” said the nephew to former European Ryder Cup winning Captain Bernard Gallacher.
“I played with him a while back and it was disappointing to see him playing so poorly as no one wants to see anyone struggle out here.
“But I feel as though he’s turned a bit of a corner this week. So he’s playing better and he also seems to have got a lot of his distance back off the tee that he seemed to have lost.”
Once the Pro-Am is over on Tuesday, Campbell will be heading to Scotland for this week's Barclay's Scottish Open.
